Why do we design? While the quest to create the perfect, harmonious space that is aesthetically pleasing and functional is most likely at the forefront of each project… for some, there is also the desire for the accolades and acknowledgments of our talents and skills. Fame, fortune… going viral. How does one go about getting their work noticed, and published. Come sit for an intimate panel discussion with the Editor of CA Home + Design Magazine, and three local designers who have each achieved several levels of success and publications.

Mary Jo Bowling, Editor, California Home+Design
Mary Jo has been writing about interior design and architecture for many years, with stints at Sunset, Better Homes & Gardens, San Francisco, Houzz and Curbed. This is her second turn at California Home+Design. As a frequent remodeler, she finds that life and work often intermingle, and can be found discussing the merits of finishes and fixtures at cocktail parties and other gatherings.

Laura Martin Bovard, LMB Interiors
Laura Martin Bovard started her interior design company as a sole proprietor in 2002. Over the years, Laura and her team of dynamic, talented designers at LMB Interiors has designed over 300 homes, offices and restaurants creating welcoming havens of beauty, comfort and grace that call people to perform the rituals of home and community. LMB Interiors actively seek clients who share the quest for what is real, true and genuine.

Kari McIntosh, Kari McIntosh Design
Kari has over a decade of experience in successful, high-end residential design. She developed her own unique blend of “California cool” that deftly blends high and low, new and old. Her interiors focus on attention to detail, craftsmanship, proportion, glamour, comfort, and unique touches for every room. Kari is LEED AP certified and is an ASID Allied Member. Kari McIntosh Design is honored with 2017 and 2016 ASID Design Excellence Awards in Kitchen Design, Bathroom Design, Residence (under 3,000 square feet), Singular Space – Showhouse (for the Traditional Home Napa Valley Showcase) and Singular Space – Nursery.

Cynthia Spence, Cynthia Spence Design
Prior to starting her design business, Cynthia held marketing and management positions in prominent entertainment and tech companies. Although an unlikely path, the experience gained in relationship marketing, creative services, project management and out-of-the-box thinking has helped shaped her business acumen and hone her creative skills.
